Electoral law At least 15 percent of the people on party/bloc lists in the proportional contest must be women, and on at least every tenth position in the lists (Electoral Code, Article 100 [2]).
Legal sanctions for non-compliance: Electoral law If documents are incorrect or missing, the party have 48 hours to rectify the errors, or they will not be registered (Electoral Code, Article 102 [1]).

Shamiram Women's Party were represented in the 1995-1999 National Assembly with 17 % of the votes and 8 seats.

The first quota came in 1999 and stated that political party lists of candidates for the PR election should contain no less than 5 percent female candidates. In 2003 election, 6 women were elected (4.5 percent), but one was designated as cabinet minister, leaving 5 women in parliament (3.8 percent).
