Additional information

In 1999, a 30 percent quota for women in both Houses of Parliament were established. This law was declared unconstitutional by the high court in 2001, but women's groups continue to fight to get the political parties to recognize this legislation. In 2002, a new law stipulated a 30 percent quota for administrative, legislative and judiciary "high posts", however excluding electoral posts at the legislative level.
