Additional information

There are quotas for religious groups in each constituency. Beirut MP Serge Toursakissian has submitted draft legislation to promote the participation of women in municipal councils in proportional numbers according to the principle of equality between the sexes (2002). According to the proposal, a nine member municipal council should include at least one woman for municipalities not exceeding 2000 inhabitants, and two women for municipalities between 2001 - 4000 inhabitants.
